3 main concepts i have learnt

Cells : Parts of cells

1)Nucleus
-small,dense, spherical body
-within nucleus contains 1 or 2 smaller round bodies called nuclealusa and they build up proteins
-Nuclear envelope/membrane: seperates nuclear content from surrounding cytoplasm
-Nuclear Pores : scattered over surface of nuclear envelop only permits certain molecules to pass
-Chromatin : long, thread-like, contains hereditary materials (DNA and proteins) and controld activities such as cell division
-Chromosomes : When chromatin threads being highly coiled and condensed during cell division

Funtions of the Nucleus
-Contain genetic material in form of chromosomes
-Control all cellular activities
-Carry instructions in protein synthesis
-Involved in cell division

2)Cell Membrane
-Delivate, thin, living, protective, partially permeable membrane
-made of proteins and fats
-provide surface area for absorption of materials in and out
-small molecules : Glucose, water, oxygen and carbion dioxide can pass through but prevents larger molecules such as starch and protein from passing through

Functions of the cell membrane
-Separates one cell from adjacent cells
-Control and regulate substance passing in and out of cells as sufficient rates
-Regulate uptake of nutrients and release of metabolic waste
-Barrier to large molecules
-Partially permeable to allow only certain molecules to pass through

3)Cytoplasm

- Jelly-like fluids in which chemical reactions take plac
-Suspension of organelles, proteins and food reserves and other substances that cell requires
-Contains organelles and a network of tubules and flattened spaces lined by a membrane

Membrane network in the cytoplasm

Endoplasmic Reticulum(ER)
there are 2 types of ER, there is a smooth ER and a rough ER
-both are involved int eh synthesis and transport of substances
-Both extends from the nuclear envelope through cytoplasm

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER)
-appears rough
-small particles called ribosomes are attaches to it outer surface
-the outer surface of RER is continuous with the nuclear envelope
- it functions is to transport proteins made by ribosomes to the Goldgi apparatus for the secretion out of the cell
-Either attaches or lie freely in cytoplasm

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER)
-Does not have ribosomes attached to its member
-Connected to the RER
- it's function is to sunthesize substance such and fats and steroids
-Conver harmful substance to harmless ones (detoxification)
